This weekend, my city celebrates its 175th Birthday! Yesterday, part of the festivities included a Birthday Cake Contest. I entered, and after 20+ hours and the help of great friends, this was the cake I created to symbolize Pinckney:
The bottom layer represented the many lakes, the second layer nature, and the top layer the gazebo in downtown Pinckney.
This is the back of the cake:
And some of the details:
The awesome flowers that my friend Susan made.
And the beautiful butterflies my sister helped make:
And here’s a close up of the gazebo – probably the hardest part of the cake for me:
There were some great entries there, like this one made by a very sweet girl from Lansing:
I was blown away by her piping – such steady hands!
And some great entries from Junior bakers as well!
This cake won 1st place:
And this delicious bunt cake was made by a kid with a broken arm!
There were two categories for the win: Judge’s Picks and People’s Choice. Here are the judges:
I don’t know how they didn’t get a stomach ache with all that cake!
This cake won 1st place in the Judges’ Category:
And this one got 2nd place in the Judges’ Category:
I just loved this one complete with the chocolate roof!
My cake won People’s Choice!
And when I got home, my husband demanded a celebratory drink out of the trophy!
All in all, a great experience and a great day! Thanks again Pinckney – and Happy 175th Birthday!
